Assistant Principal's Message
Books Home - English, Mathematics & RE
On Friday, all students will be taking home their English, Maths and Religious Education books for parents and guardians to discuss about what their child is learning. A slip will be glued in each book for parents and guardians to comment and sign as a means of communication and support in your childs learning. We hope that their learnings create positive conversations about future goals.
Canberra Camp
I was priviledged to accompany Stage 3 on their educational excursion to Canberra, ACT. We were in safe hands of the bus driver and were busy each second of the day. As soon as we arrived in Canberra we had a wonderful view of the whole Captial Territory.
This trip provided our students with a rich learning experience, exploring significant historical, cultural, and scientific sites. Here are some highlights from our visit:
Australian War Memorial
Our students had the opportunity to learn about Australia’s military history and pay their respects to those who have served our country. The War Memorial offered a profound educational experience, helping students understand the sacrifices made by our armed forces. We also thank Hamish Frazer for his personal insight to those past and present that protect us as Australians.
National Museum of Australia
At the National Museum, students explored Australia’s diverse history and culture through interactive exhibits and displays. This visit enhanced their understanding of our nation’s heritage and the stories that have shaped it. The students enjoyed learning about the Indigenous Australian's and how they live off the land.
Parliament House
A visit to Parliament House provided students with a firsthand look at Australia’s political system. They learned about the roles and functions of our government and even had the chance to witness a live parliamentary session. Allegra Spender MP took the afternoon to talk to the children, and gave them time to ask questions about her and her role in parliament and the community.
Old Parliament House
Students stepped back in time at Old Parliament House, exploring the history of Australia’s political landscape. This visit offered insights into the evolution of our democracy and the significant events that have taken place within its walls.
Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre
Questacon was a highlight of our trip, with its engaging and interactive science exhibits. Students participated in hands-on activities that made learning about science and technology fun and exciting. Some students took the giant slide as a challenge and were able to face their fears by letting go!
National Indigneous Literacy Day
Indigenous Literacy Day is proudly produced and presented by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in collaboration with the Sydney Opera House. It’s an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Stories, Cultures, and Languages.
Indigenous Literacy Day is held on the Wednesday 4 September
This year, we’re celebrating the theme ‘Be A Proud Voice for Country’. We’ll be sharing some of the deep and diverse ways children, Elders and families connect with Country; and the significance of Country in Aboriginal Communities.
On Wednesday all students will have time to acknowledge and learn about National Indigeous Literacy Day. We will be hosting the GREAT BOOK SWAP and also collecting donations for Indigenous kids who need access to books in First Languages.
R U Ok? Day - A CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE A LIFE
R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.
You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.
Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:
- Ask R U OK?
- Listen
- Encourage action
- Check in
The annual campaign is a national day of action highlighting the importance of meaningful conversations. This year's event is being held Thursday, 12 September 2024. Students are asked to wear a touch of yellow to mark the event and learn about the importance of meaningful conversations.
Practicum University Student
This term we welcome Ms Jarrah who will be observing and teaching in Year 6. She will be visiting other classes throughout her practicum time at St Anthony's. Ms Jarrah is from Australian Catholic University and is completing her Masters in Teaching. Ms Jarrah will be at St Anthony's until the end of the term.
Day of the Distinguished Presentations
‘Day of the Distinguished’ is about transformation. Through a long and deep study of the eminent person, the students come to realise both the gifts and the challenges that person encountered in realising those gifts, in moving from potential to success.
Learner ‘transformation’ comes through identification with that distinguished person. We encourage the students to speak in the first person, wear the clothes typical of that person’s life and times. The motivations, aspirations and achievements of that Distinguished person can then serve as a transforming vector for one’s own life. Our Year 2 - 6 students will have time researching and preparing for their presentations of their distinguished figure to showcase their gifts and talents. Kindergarten and Year 1 will have a modified oral presentation to complete and will present to their peers throughout week 9.
Classroom Presentations: Throughout Week 9 - Monday, 16th September to Friday, 20th September
Years 2- 6: Showcase Afternoon: Monday, 23rd September from 2:15-3pm (Parents Welcome)
Blessings,
