Eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!

Next term is an exciting one, where Year 10 students will be selecting their pathways for Senior School. There will be a number of Senior School pathway information sessions for students and parents to assist them in making informed decisions.

Having to make decisions about what courses to select for the final years at school can be a daunting task for students, especially when there are so many viable options with VET, General and ATAR pathways.I look forward to meeting many of the Year 10s and Parents/Guardians to discuss VET pathway options.

For those who would like to find out more about a VET pathway, it is recommended that you attend the VET Connect Information Evening on Tuesday, 5 May. A link to register your attendance will be sent out early next term.

Spotlight on Year 10 Work Experience during Leap Week

During ‘Leap Week’ in Week 9 of Term 4, Year 10 students have the opportunity to attend one of two CORE Camps or participate in Work Experience for one week. Work Experience encourages students to engage in employment in a particular field of personal interest. The students gain invaluable skills and experience from participating in this opportunity, and it is beneficial to be able to include this work in a Resume for casual employment and TAFE or Alternative Entry to University applications in the future.  It may also assist students in making decisions about their future pathways.

Students are required to source their own placements. However, on occasions we are offered placements with some of our existing employers who take students on for Workplace Learning. These will be advertised if available.

All paperwork and pre-placement checks by the VET Office are required to be completed prior to commencement at a work placement. In order for the school to meet the compliance requirements, students taking part in the work experience program will need to submit a Year 10 Work Experience Placement Information Form to the VET Office by Week 9, Term 2: Friday 19 June. Work Experience Information Packages can be collected from the VET Office. The upcoming holidays provide a valuable time to start making contact with employers. I look forward to seeing a large number of our students taking up this wonderful opportunity!
