SPECIAL REPORT: Discussing War & Conflict
With the recent escalation of conflict involving Iran, children may be hearing or seeing distressing updates through the 24-hour news cycle, social media and conversations at school. Even when events are geographically distant, repeated exposure to images, headlines and commentary can heighten anxiety, particularly for young people whose understanding of the world is still developing.
It is important for parents and caregivers to be mindful of overexposure, as constant coverage can amplify fear and uncertainty. Reassurance is key. Children need to feel safe and supported as they process complex global events.
Before beginning these conversations, take a moment to check in with your own emotions. Children often take their cues from the adults around them. Remaining calm, listening openly and offering reassurance can help your child regulate their feelings and maintain a sense of security.
This Special Report provides practical guidance to help families navigate conversations about war and conflict in a measured, age-appropriate way, while reinforcing hope, empathy and resilience. We encourage you to take a moment to review the information provided. If this topic raises concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please consider seeking appropriate medical or professional support.

🔵 World Autism Awareness Day — April 2 🔵
To mark World Autism Awareness Day, our students took time to reflect on their understanding and experiences of autism by sharing thoughtful messages on puzzle‑piece shapes, symbolising how every individual adds something unique and valuable to our community. These pieces were brought together to form a powerful collage celebrating diversity, inclusion, and understanding.
Students also wore blue ribbons to show their support and to help promote autism awareness within our school community and beyond. The display was complemented by stories of well‑known celebrities and public figures who have achieved success while being autistic or having neurodivergent traits—reminding us that differences are not limitations, but strengths.
Together, we continue to build a kinder, more inclusive community where everyone belongs.

Career Conversations Showcase - April 1
Our Career Conversations Showcase on Wednesday was a fantastic and well‑attended morning, bringing students and families together to explore future education and career pathways. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from leading universities and industry organisations, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into a wide range of post‑school options.
Presentations from Curtin University, UWA (Medicine and Dentistry), Murdoch University, Defence Industries, the College of Electrical Training and Electrical Group Training, and the Australian Submarine Corporation provided practical information, inspiration, and clarity around university, training, and industry pathways.
Thank you to all our guest presenters, students, and families who joined us. The showcase was a wonderful opportunity to support informed decision‑making and help our students confidently plan their next steps.
