Harmony Week Fiesta!

The Horsham College Harmony Week Fiesta! invited the whole school population of more than 1000 students to wear a splash of orange last Thursday 19 March , as they showed their support for Australia’s cultural diversity while attending the lunchtime event on the Library Green.
The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly attended with games and activities while Headspace hosted competitions and the Horsham College Language department curated craft activities with German and Spanish lollies for students to munch on whilst getting creative.
Organiser and Chaplain, Yolande Grosser, was ably supported by the House Captains and Student Leadership Team to provide food and drink tastings.
This year, the focus was on French Brioche with a variety of fillings. The cream cheese icing proved most popular, with more than 200 Brioche Sliders being consumed. Coconut water flavoured with Lychee was taste tested by hundreds of students, with many finding a new favourite, while for others, it was a once in a lifetime tropical treat.
The gorgeous autumn sunshine made a refreshing drink a popular choice, and it helped to wash down more than 200 Iced VoVo biscuits, as this Australian classic was discovered by many students for the first time. School Captains Nash McKenzie and Henry Overman opened the event, with Henry saying, “It’s so important that we celebrate our country's diversity through our Harmony Week Fiesta! respecting each other and our differences,” after Nash highlighted, “Australia is sometimes described as a miracle, as we live in a nation built through sacrifice, courage, and an ability to create prosperity and opportunity when the odds are stacked against us”.
Multicultural music added to the festive atmosphere as students from Year 7 to Year 12 celebrated the Horsham College values of Care, Commitment, Collaboration and Character.
