Eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!
It was exciting to launch a new partnership with Health Science Hub and a course opportunity for students in the General Program at Applecross SHS in 2026. For the first time, the school has partnered with Health Science Hub (HSH) to offer the HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance through a P2C arrangement.
Students enrolled in this program attend their regular classes at school four days per week and spend one day per week (Tuesdays) learning with specialist trainers from Health Science Hub. This allows students to gain industry-relevant skills and a nationally recognised qualification while still completing their school studies.
The course introduces students to the allied health sector and develops practical skills used in healthcare environments. Key learning areas include:
Supporting allied health programs and client movement
Understanding the impact of injury, illness and health conditions
Using medical terminology and effective healthcare communication
Working safely with infection control and workplace health practices
Recognising falls risk and supporting clients with diverse needs
A major feature of the course is 120 hours of workplace placement in an allied health setting, often facilitated through aged care providers across Perth. This real-world experience helps students build confidence and practical skills in the health industry.
The qualification provides a strong foundation for students interested in careers such as Allied Health Assistant, Therapy Assistant, Community Health Worker or Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant, and can also support further study in health science fields.
I look forward to seeing our students explore pathways into the growing health sector.
Spotlight on the 2026 Disability Expo - 14 & 15 August
Our expos are more than just booths and pamphlets - they are vibrant community events filled with entertainment, activities, and opportunities for connection.
Designed for adults, families, children, carers, and guardians, the events often attract visitors across both days so they can experience everything on offer.
With over 200 exhibitors, attendees can explore a wide range of services including NDIS providers, allied health professionals, early intervention specialists, equipment and resource suppliers, home and community services, and disability and complex care supports for both adults and children.
Many exhibitors also offer services for carers, people over 65, families, and individuals seeking private support outside the NDIS.
