Respectful Relationships

Our Respectful Relationships program has been in full swing in LPS classrooms for a number of weeks now. This teaching and learning program aligns with our school values of 'Being a Learner, Being Respectful and Being Resilient' and is designed to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours through the teaching of eight different topics. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. For more information please see https://www.vic.gov.au/respectful-relationships
In previous weeks, all year levels have been covering the first topic - Emotional Literacy. In this topic students develop the ability to be aware of, understand and use information about the emotional states of themselves and others.
Most year levels will be moving into the next topic of Personal & Cultural Strengths in the coming weeks. In this topic, students develop a vocabulary to help them recognise and understand strengths and positive qualities in themselves and others. They identify the values and strengths they have learnt from role models within their families and culture to think about how this guidance helps them to treat others with respect. They consider how to draw on these strengths to engage with the challenges and opportunities that life presents.
How do you talk about personal strengths in your household? We strongly encourage you to openly discuss your own and your child’s strengths and to try new activities to explore these characteristics. This will also lead to children having a more positive mindset, as well as positively contributing to their mental health and self esteem.
