This week we celebrate International Women's day. We look to scripture to find the incredible service and role women played in spreading the good news. This week make sure you thank the special women in your lives.
Soon afterward Jesus went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.
Summary
This passage tells us that women were active followers of Jesus during his ministry. Women such as Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna travelled with Jesus and the disciples, helping to support the mission of sharing the Good News. They used their gifts and resources to help Jesus and the early Christian community.
Significance of Women in the Bible and in Our Lives
The Bible shows that women played important roles in God’s story. They were disciples, supporters, leaders, and witnesses to key moments in Jesus’ life, including the resurrection. Their faith, courage, and generosity helped the message of Jesus spread throughout the world.
Today, women continue to shape our lives through their love, strength, wisdom, and care. Mothers, grandmothers, teachers, leaders, and friends help guide us, support us, and remind us of God’s love. Just as the women in the Bible supported Jesus’ mission, women today help build strong families, communities, and faith.
Prayer: The Gift of Women
Loving God,
We thank you for the gift of women in our world.
We give thanks for the women in the Bible who followed Jesus with courage and faith.
Bless the women in our lives—our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, teachers, and friends.
Help us to respect their wisdom, learn from their strength, and be grateful for their love and care.
May we recognise the gifts of women and work together to build a world of kindness and justice.
Amen.

Each day St Peter's students and staff will be walking as part of our normal routine. However there will be a difference. Each day a unit will be in charge of carrying a bucket of water. The bucket of water represents those communities who do not have access to clean water from their homes who need to walk each day just to have access to it. Caritas has some great resources on it's website that you can access at home Sisilia's story | Caritas Australia
