The Arts

Well, we have come to the end of Term 2. The students across the entire school have developed a range of artistic skills, from playing songs on the ukulele, identifying musical instruments in the orchestra, emulating the visual art styles of different countries and cultures, as well as devloping and performing a range of plays.

With a new term about to begin, the Art subjects will also be changing. Starting Term 3, Prep-2 students will be replacing Music with Drama, and the 3-6 students will be replacing Music and Drama with Media Arts and Visual Arts. I am looking forward to seeing all students again after a lovely holiday!

Prep

In Music, the Prep students finished off the term by listening and responding to the orchestral music of The Carnival of the Animals. We discussed how music can make us think and feel different things, such as imagining the movements and sounds of animals. They also created their own animal music using percussion instruments.

In Visual Art, the students continued producing a range of self portaits, creating designs of themselves dressed as different types of characters, such as clowns, pirates and fairies.

1/2

In Music, the 1/2 students finished off the term by listening and responding to the orchestral music of The Carnival of the Animals. We discussed how music can make us think and feel different things, such as imagining the movements and sounds of animals. They also created their own animal music using percussion instruments.

In Visual Art, students contiuned to emulate the designs of different cultures, such as Japanese sakura trees, Roman mosaics and Native American totem poles.

3/4

In Music, the 3/4 students continued learning how to play chords and strumming patterns on the ukulele. They learnt how to read a chord chart, to swap between chords while playing a song, as well as how to sing two different songs at the same time as a group.

In Drama, students have finished rehearsals on their short plays, ready to present in the last week of term. They have organised props and costumes to use in their plays, as well as worked really hard to memorise their lines.

5/6

In Music, the 5/6 students continued learning how to play chords and strumming patterns on the ukulele. They learnt how to read a chord chart, to swap between chords while playing a song, as well as how to sing two different songs at the same time as a group. In Drama, the student's hard work over the last two terms culminated in presenting their production to family and friends at Grovedale College. It was an amazing night and the students should be very proud of their achievment!
