Literacy

In Literacy, the ⅚ have been working on Waves our class novel that we read and answer comprehension questions to expand our understanding of and knowledge about what we are reading. Also we have been writing introductions to stories for different prompts such as a shipwreck. Also we   have been working on a timed writing prompt about a tiger in a city. We had two hours to work on it and that wraps up Literacy for week five, six and seven.

Numeracy

Over the last fortnight in Numeracy, students have continued to venture into the world of decimals! The primary focus has been the use of arithmetic operators to solve an assortment of decimal related equations. Learning decimals helps students to understand parts of a whole in a more precise way. Whether it's handling money, reading measurements, or solving real world problems, mastering decimals is a crucial mathematical skill. The teachers are especially excited to see how the students continue to build their confidence and knowledge in this important area of maths!

Interschool Sports

The participating students continued to show outstanding sportsmanship and determination against Strathmore North Primary School. Competing in a range of sports including soccer, t-ball, netball and AFL, teams represented the school with great pride. Not only were there some exciting wins and close matches, but the students also demonstrated great teamwork, resilience and respect on and off the field. A huge thank you to all the staff and parent volunteers who helped with coaching, transport and support. Your involvement and expertise has been invaluable.

Special Events

In Week 6, we learned about the significance of Sorry Day in Australia. We studied the Stolen Generations and how in 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd publicly said "sorry" to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were taken from their homes and placed in foster homes. Now, all Australian citizens acknowledge this apology, offering their own sorry to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have been hurt by these actions.

In Week 7, we had a First Aid session with St John’s Ambulance Victoria. They taught us about the importance of first aid in Schools and other public spaces, like shopping centres. We learned about the critical role of CPR and how defibrillation can be used to shock the heart back to its normal rhythm. They also taught us the Doctors ABCDs (DRSABCD). We're grateful to St John's for teaching us how to help others when they need it the most.
