3/4 Learning Community

What a big 2 weeks in the 3/4 Learning Community! We have learned about and celebrated Reconciliation Week and we have begun to think about Camp for next term.
A huge Thank You to all the families from 3/4A (Alysse), 3/4B (Amanda) and 3/4C (Brittany) for your help and time in our first two Friday Food Stalls in the 3/4 Learning Community - they were a massive success!
3/4D (Oscar) and 3/4E (Sam) your Friday Food Stall is coming up on Friday 13th June.
Literacy:
In reading, we have been reading Uncle Xbox. We have completed the book by reading it everyday. The book is about a Aboriginal fella called Dusty and who figures out that there is more to the world than just playing Xbox. We have been linking it with Inquiry. Dusty learnt that he shouldn't always be wishing for what he doesn't have when he has stuff that does not cost money and is not a screen. We have done a book review and questions about the book and what we will predict will happen. We have been comparing Dusty from Uncle Xbox compared to Pemulwuy how they were feeling, and guess what? They linked in together! We have been doing a lot of different fun activities to help us with writing and with inquiry so it can all link in. It has been an honour of reading Uncle Xbox and learning new things and reading what Dr Jared Thomas has written for anyone who would like to read the book or who is reading.

In writing, we have been publishing our last paragraph in our factual recount on the First Fleet. When we have finished typing the whole thing we have to check for any grammar or spelling mistakes and then you can add pictures to make it more interesting.

Maths:
In maths we have been learning about length, perimeter and area. We have used string and equipment to compare the metric units of measurement. We used mm, cm, m and km to understand length. We measured the perimeter of shapes with and without grid paper. And we learned how to calculate area using squares and recording it with the little 2 above the metric unit. Some of us even used Google Earth to look at the school and estimate distance between our school buildings. We also learned why estimation is really important in maths.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry, we have been learning about the British and Indigenous perspectives on the colonisation of Australia. We created time lines and ordered the events of early Australian history. We also did a lot of activities and learning around Reconciliation Week, National Sorry Day and Mabo Day. We have started a new project on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are searching them up and finding facts about them to write a biography.

Wellbeing:
In Resilience Project we have been learning about mindful practises and designing a board game to help with these. It helps us to connect to our feelings and then how we deal with a feelings when we need support. It's in the planning stages and we need more time to actually make them.
