Year 5 News

Dear Families,

The Year 5s have been extremely busy already this term!

Our excursion to Sovereign Hill was amazing; students were immersed into life during the 1850’s gold rush, experiencing the environment and living conditions of that point in our history. We also visited MacKillop College for a Theatre experience and tour, igniting passion and excitement in many of the cohort.

In class, we continue to investigate Australian history, timelining important events and dates that have shaped our culture and traditions. In English, we have been analysing the themes and authorial choices of the film Storm Boy through the ‘painted essay’, a writing strategy that uses color-coding to help students understand the structure of an essay. In Maths we have been adding and subtracting fractions and will be moving into data collection and interpretation. We continue to explore Visible Wellbeing strategies - ask your child what their character strengths are!

Well done to those students who are participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, we love to see their enthusiasm.

It’s getting chilly out there, we recommend layers (clearly labeled) and would appreciate if you could donate a box of tissues to your class
Please pack a healthy fruit or vegetable snack everyday.
Please bring a drink bottle to school each day
Students have reminded to fill in their dairy when they read, teachers are checking diaries every day.
Students should be reading every night for at least 15 - 20 minutes as well as completing at least 1 home learning task
