Principal's Message

Riverwalk Primary School is a child safe community.

We acknowledge the Wathaurong People, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we teach and learn, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Dear Families,

$16.1 million Asset Management Plan (AMP)

In the 2025–26 State Budget, the Victorian Government invested $1.5 billion to build, expand and modernise schools across the state.

I am delighted to confirm as part of this investment, Riverwalk Primary School will share in $47.8 million for school expansions, receiving at least $16.1 million to construct a new double storey learning centre. This is to replace the existing portables on the school site and construct permanent classrooms for the future.

On Thursday 22nd May, I hosted John Lister at Riverwalk to discuss the potential scope of this project to encourage the inclusion of the modifications of the permanent buildings. On Wednesday 23rd April, I attended a meeting with John Lister MP. Here I had the opportunity to discuss some of the concerns raised by School Council and the community. These included: local parking and public transport access; open-plan building design for students with additional needs; and the installation of air conditioning units as part of the community's concerns.

I am now working with the Victorian Building Authority (VSBA) on the first phase of the Asset Management Plan. In Term 3, the external design consultants and project managers will be appointed with a planned completion for Q3 2028.

National Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week with the theme ‘Bringing Now to Next.' This has provided us with the opportunity to explore our collective history and to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and develop a deeper understanding of our national story. Students have explored the concept of ‘reconciliation’ and what this means in the context of our history and for our First Nation community. We are very lucky to have 22 First Nations students and their families within the Riverwalk Community.

Staffing Changes

We welcome to the community Jack and Anna who will be joining us as learning assistants next week. Due to staff on family leave and other vacancies we have made some minor changes to staffing. We currently have a high proportion of staff absences due to winter illnesses. Whist we have e regularly pool of replacement staff who know our school and students, staffing remains a challenge across the state. We are doing everything we can to ensure continuity in your child's learning.

The Department of Education and School Council have commenced the process to appoint a new Principal for Riverwalk Primary School to start in Term 3. We will keep you posted as this process unfolds.

Cross-Country

Last week, six of our students represented the school at the Wyndham Division Cross Country. In an amazing effort, five students have been selected to progress to the Region Competition. Congratulations to Ayla on coming 1st and Seerat who placed 2nd!

We are all very proud of everyone!

Newsletter Feedback

We want your feedback. Please let us know what you think of the new Riverwalk News! We will trial this new newsletter format for Term 2 and review following community feedback.

Next week myself and the Principal Team will attend the statewide Principal Conference with all the Principals across the state. At this event we will connect with people from across the Department of Education, including Paris and Barry, as well as hear from the Deputy Premier / Minister of Education and leading educators on the upcoming reforms and initiatives in education.

A reminder that Tuesday 10th June is a pupil free day following the King's Birthday public holiday. Here teachers will finalise assessments and commence your child's end of semester reporting.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Anthony Jackson
