Performing Arts Carnival

South Oakleigh College was buzzing with energy today as students, staff and families gathered for the much-anticipated Performing Arts Carnival — a spectacular showcase of talent, teamwork and school spirit. The event featured showstopping performances from our four house groups: Waratah, Grevillea, Banksia and Acacia.

Each house delivered dazzling routines filled with music, movement and colour, earning cheers from our packed theatre. The day also featured artworks and media projections, along with brilliant performances from some of South Oakleigh’s famed ensembles, including the Acez, the beloved Choir, the elegant Woodwind Ensemble, and the electrifying VCE Performance Ensemble.

With a mix of student-led acts and well-rehearsed musical pieces, the Performing Arts Carnival was a  celebration of our school’s creative talent and community spirit.

Congratulations to all performers, teachers and backstage helpers for making the 2025 Performing Arts Carnival one of the most memorable yet!

Media NEWS.

First and foremost, I would like to extend my thanks to the cast and crew of the podcast “SOC NOW.”

This initiative has been incredibly successful this term, engaging numerous students with its fresh questions and outdoor approach this year. Their involvement in the school community and conversations with fellow students has truly made an impact.

I would especially like to thank Abdullah and Hiro for their dedication, and I look forward to continuing the podcast into Term 3.

Additionally, a big thank you goes to Athanasius and Antosha for their ongoing technical support in producing these podcasts.

We are in the midst of updating our 2025 catalogue with all our cameras and equipment, allowing students to borrow them during class for projects, schoolwork, and excursions, similar to how one would borrow a book from the library.

We aim to kick off this process at the beginning of Term 3. Stay tuned.

Hire shop Monday, Wednesday, and Friday lunchtimes run and manage by the students of the Studio+ club which is super proud of their new lanyards designed by Ms Gross, to wear when working around the school on events.

We are genuinely proud to participate in this year's 2025 Performing Arts Carnival by showcasing some fantastic short films that highlight our amazing clubs at school.

We will make these films available online so that everyone can watch and engage with them.

Year 10 Music Recording

This semester in year 10 music, students rehearsed and prepared three songs with their teacher Miss Neep and recorded them live under the guidance of Jamie Payet and Scott Bertram in our school recording studio.

They were also joined by two of SOC’s year 9 voice students who snag two of the songs for the.  Students had a variety of sessions in the studio where they were privileged to a world of learning, some amazing gear, including a guitar amp previously by the famous Angus Young, as well getting hands on experience as to the life of a professional recording musician.

Mural Reveal

We are thrilled to reveal the incredible mural created by our Year 8 students during Curiosity Quest Week!

This vibrant and inspiring piece, now proudly displayed upstairs in front of the Senior School Student Services Office, brings our college motto — Knowledge Conquers All — to life through student creativity and collaboration.

A huge thank you to Olga for her outstanding preparation, guidance, and thoughtful compilation of our students’ work. This mural is not just art — it's a celebration of student voice, imagination, and the power of knowledge.
