Learning in Year 6

English

The year 6 students have been reading and analysing poetry in the form of ballads.  This week we have modelled how to break down a poem into small units of meaning and interpret the author's message, tone, rhythm and the poetic devices used.  Poems such as The Field Mouse by Cecil Frances Alexander, The First Red-Bird by Evaleen Stein and ballads The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle and Blowin' in the Wind by Bob Dylan.  Following on the students will be studying the work of Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker) a renowned Aboriginal poet.

Maths

The students have been learning how to convert between units of measurement for length, mass and capacity.

Integrated Studies

The students have been working on a timeline depicting Australia's historical events between 1900-2000.
