Learning in Year 5

ENGLISH

This term in Grade 5, we have explored a variety of Information Texts and written some of our own! Students made informative posters about a natural wonder and presented slides to the class about a human-made wonder. Our second writing unit for the term is Poetry. Students are learning about the different types of poetry and the language features that are used to engage the reader. They will use these to write a series of their own free verse poems over the last weeks of Term 2.

MATHS

A lot has been covered in Maths this term! We started off with our Holiday Habits project where we created and analysed data and graphs about our school holidays. Next, we moved onto Space where we worked with shapes, built nets and performed transformations. Now, we are revising the four operations and practising different strategies to solve problems efficiently.

INTEGRATED

We have learnt so much about Australian history this term! Each week we explore a different event, its causes, consequences and impact on Australian society. Students have turned this information into creative timelines. Now, we are focusing on The Gold Rush and The Eureka Stockade. We are writing letters and diary entries as well as preparing props and scripts for a mini re-enactment at the end of term.
