Learning in Year  3

The end of the term is almost here and the cold weather has finally arrived. The Year 3s have been lucky enough to continue their adventures across the road and be mentored by the Aquinas students on Basketball and Soccer.  We have had a great time moving our bodies and enjoying their great facilities.

English:

The Year 3s wrote their CAT (Common Assessment Task) on ‘What Makes Australia Great?’ to wrap up our Persuasive writing unit. It was fabulous seeing not only neat and legible handwriting, but also to see the kids using powerful language, high modality words and rhetorical questions to convince their audience of their thoughts and opinions on what makes Australia great.

We have also completed our Australian States and Cities summaries.  We watched short clips on each of the states, located and recorded key information and then wrote summaries as a class and presented them neatly on an Australia Map.  They look FANTASTIC!!

After our MCG excursion, we will be writing mini snap shot recounts and using them for mini mapping projects.

Mathematics:

LENGTH, CAPACITY and MASS! Thank you to those families who brought in their recyclable items, they have been so beneficial for our learning as we have been able to categorise measurements, order and convert different types of measurements using real life examples.  Students were able to use their knowledge and create a room and label items in their room that they would either measure using length, mass or capacity.

We have just started our unit on Angles.  Students have enjoyed finding and identifying a range of angles around the room.

The Year 3 are off to the MCG on WEDNESDAY 18th JUNE as part of Integrated theme ‘Australia, You're Standing on It!’ by visiting a famous Australian landmark. We are all pumped about going.  Stay tuned for Facebook photos ….
