School News

A message from Cheryl
Today was a lot of fun at our weekly lunchtime Activity Group, which is open to all students at second lunch on Mondays.
The theme was 'Getting to Know You', which will continue for the rest of the term.
There were lots of laughs as we all answered questions around the table and got to know each other a little better.
Two of the questions were:
- What makes you laugh?
- Have you ever dressed up in costume or fancy dress?
The session finished with colouring in for some, and a game of UNO for others.
It was great to learn more about each other in a fun way, and I look forward to next week where we get to know each other even more with an activity about recognising our strengths.
Inclusion Morning Tea
Dear Families,
As part of our inclusion theme this term, we would like to invite you to a morning tea at the school on Thursday 19th June from 9 to 9:30am. We have been wanting to arrange this for a while, to develop a safe, collaborative parent support network and voice around ‘Neurodiversity.’
This is open to all community members, whether you have a child, you know someone or you are living with a disability or neurodivergence. Or if you are just interested in coming along to learn more!
Please come along to connect and share your journey with other parents in our community. Margie and I look forward to joining you in this first morning tea and discussing what may result from coming together. Please RSVP if you will be attending by Friday 13th June to suzie.tume80@schools.sa.edu.au.
Thank you,
Suzie Tume -Inclusion Coordinator
Knock Out Football
23 May 2025
Two weeks ago, on Friday, our year 4/5/6 football team went and played two games of football down at Bridgewater Oval. In our first game, we played against Aldgate Primary School. The first quarter we did well, and we ended that quarter ahead, but the same cannot be said for the second. At half time, after a good pep talk from our coach Sam Barlow, we ran out on the field ready. In the last quarter, Ben Carter kicked three goals in 5 minutes, sealing our victory. In our second game, we played Westbourne Park Primary School. We started off strong despite the fact this game was back-to-back with the first one. In the second quarter, they came fighting back, but we kept the lead until halftime. In the second half, it got close; we had a lot of set shots and chances that we gave away, but we still worked hard as a team. In the end, we came out on top, and made it through to the next round. Our goal kickers were Callum Wilksch, Arlo Moore, Henry Willsmore, Ashton Geytenbeek, Harry Rogers and Ben Carter. A big thanks to Matt Abslom and Brad Wilksch for goal umpiring, Jess Rogers, Sarah Carter, Sam Barlow and Matt Abslom for driving and most of all thanks to Sam Barlow for giving up his time to coach us. Thanks to all the parents who came out to support us.
By Eloise and Louie.
District Football
Innes, Harrison, Harry, Ashton, all got in to the district footy team. The tryouts were on the 4th of May, and most of us got into the next one, and by the end, 4 of us got into the team. The carnival started on Monday, the 25th of May, and went to Wednesday, the 28th at West Beach. We played 3 games a day, so there were nine games in total. In our first game, it was extremely windy, and in the second half it was hailing so heavily the umpires ran off the field when we were still playing. After that game, we ran back to our tent to find that the whole floor was flooded and all our bags were soaked. The second day and the third were much better because there wasn’t much rain, just wind, and it was even sunny on Wednesday. Our team won seven out of our nine games we played, which puts us in third and only Tea Tree Gulley and Port beat us.

New Dress
Some exciting news! We are changing up our school uniform by adding a new Polo Dress! The new polo dress is now available to be ordered through Flexi Schools for $49.50. This dress will eventually replace the current summer dress. We currently have limited stock of the old summer dress available that will be sold at a clearance price of just $40 (first in best dressed) until no stock remains. Don't worry, you can still wear the older style for the next few years at least!
If you are keen to have a look at the new dress with our logo printed, it is currently on display in the front office. Arrangements can be made through the front office also for trying on.
Uraidla Primary Facebook Group
If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a FaceBook group for UPS families and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.
It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council and admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.
Meet the Parents and Friends - Serica
Hi all. I am Serica Harvey, pronounced Sh-erica (that’s how I usually introduced myself). I am Singapoean background. I can speak some mandarin and some words of Bahasa. I am a mum of 2, full-time. I was a medical scientist in pathology and used to work in SA Pathology before moving to Darwin, where Naomi was born. Naomi is in Katie’s reception class. I join P&F because I’d like to be part of school community and contribute my part as best I can.
Chess
Did you know that each Thursday during the second lunch playtime there is a Chess Club? Chess is a great game and brings many benefits to children, including
* critical thinking
* concentration
* challenge
* enjoyment
* decision making skills
New players are welcome each week, meeting in Stephen’s class♟️
Enrolment in Reception
If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school. Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.
Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.
If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)
Enrolments for mid entry 2025 should already be finalised. With enrolments for start of 2026 due by the end of term 2. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour please contact the office on 8390 3209 and book into one of the below time slots.
