From Your P&F

Sports Canteen
Thank you to our canteen volunteers for keeping everything in motion for a huge day on Super Saturday. A special thank you to the many boarding parents who took time out of their weekend to volunteer at the canteen.
Saturday 31 May parent volunteers:
Alison S, Melissa Ashman (4 hours this term), Cath Clarke (3 hours this term), Kirsty Clune, Charlotte Davies, Lucy Davies, Amanda Eaton, Libby Gallagher, Bridget Gardiner (3 hours this term), Sue Hartfiel (3 hours this term), Colleen Hendry, Karen Higgins, Josh Lavea (9 hours this term), Lauren Lavea (12 hours this term), Sharon Law, Alicia Lee (3 hours this term), Katie Lukin, Donna Lynn (8 hours this term), Polly Lyons, Michelle Mead, Bev Milas (2 hours this term), Eleanor Moody, Charlotte Myers (2 hours this term), Lucy Onal, Alison Phelan, Richelle Power, Penny Sommerville, Damien Stapleton, Belinda Sweeney (2 hours this term), Meg Wood (5 hours this term).
The P&F ask that families with a son playing sport consider offering just one hour of service in any canteen, on any week across the term. There are roughly 400 one-hour volunteer slots to fill for each term (to spread across in the order of 2000 parents/carers) - plenty of options to work with. Volunteers frequently report how much they enjoy their time behind the counter.
Flats Canteen
Grandstand Canteen - McMahon
Coffee Van – McMahon
(To limit food waste and enable necessary logistics for the day, decisions are made on Friday afternoon to open late, or close early for the coming Saturday’s canteens if volunteer numbers are too low to service the advertised opening hours. Please assist us by signing up by 12:00pm Friday wherever possible.)
Sports Canteens Volunteer Co-ordinator
The P&F are seeking someone to take over the job of issuing the call for volunteers. The intent is to shadow the role in 2025, with a view to commencing in 2026.
A few details on how sports canteens are managed:
- Canteen operations are limited to AIC fixture weeks in Terms 1, 2 and 3 where there are teams playing at home.
- Food ordering, canteen opening and closing, food prep and delivery are all done by the MCA Catering team.
- The Catering team also sets up the Signup Sheet at the start of each term. We use the same links for the full term.
- Canteen buildings, fixtures and fittings are maintained by the College.
- The P&F operates on a no-Cash basis, so there is no requirement for collecting, counting, and banking weekly takings. All the canteen takings come through the eftpos machines. The accounts are managed by the P&F Treasurer, including any replacement/repair of eftpos machines, and payments for canteen stock.
- There is a very experienced and responsive group of parent year level contacts who facilitate with the weekly volunteer calls through the year level facebook pages.
The role of Volunteer Co-ordinator involves several small routine tasks across fixtured weeks in Terms 1,2 and 3. It is helpful to attend the canteens from time to time across the term to get to know the catering staff, stay in touch with the volunteers, and generally be part of the great atmosphere on Saturdays. However, if required, the role can be done remotely/offline, working around existing commitments across Monday – Friday.
A typical week’s activities looks like:
- Liaising with the College Head of Catering to agree on the weekend’s volunteer ask once fixtures are issued
- Identifying a roster (year levels or teams as appropriate) to fill the volunteer requirement for the coming Saturday
- Liaising with the year level volunteer contacts to confirm and distribute messages for the week
- Sending the agreed message to the P&F Secretary to include in the weekly newsletter
- Staying in touch with progress on volunteer numbers Thur-Fri, and requesting Parent App notice or additional facebook messages where required to address shortages
Please reach out to Donna Lynn at PresidentPandF@marash.qld.edu.au if you would like to find out more.
Marist Card and Games Day
At the end of 2025, the current Guest Relations Coordinator for Marist Card and Games Day will be leaving the College with her Year 12 son. Therefore, we need someone to take over this role from 2026. Now would be a great time to come onboard to shadow the role.
This role would suit someone who loves interacting with people by sending out invitations, gathering RSVPs including dietary requirements, making seating plans, welcoming guests, making announcements over the microphone… basically being an outgoing, welcoming person who keeps the day running smoothly.
Time-commitment-wise, the role is required to attend Card and Games Day once per term, which is always a Wednesday 8am-2:30pm; help with setup on the Tuesday afternoon before each day 1pm-2:30pm; and sporadic time in the lead up to send out invitations, receive RSVPs and communicate catering requirements to the College.
If this sounds like something you could help us with, please contact Ann Rainbow on carddaypandf@marash.qld.edu.au or 0411 482 792 to find out more.
