National Simultaneous Storytime event

In its 25th year, the National Simultaneous Storytime event invites children across Australia to come together and celebrate the joy of reading.

This year’s featured book is The Truck Cat, a story, featuring an inquisitive cat and a kind-hearted truck driver.

On Wednesday 21 May at 12:00 noon, over one million children will read The Truck Cat in more than 9,000 locations, including schools, libraries, homes, and hospitals. We’re proud to be part of this national celebration here at Altona North Campus Bayside.

In addition to the reading, our students will take part in a variety of literacy-based activities, from oral storytelling to script writing and creative presentations, all designed to highlight the importance and power of reading. How will your child summarise the story?

Be sure to ask them about it after school on Wednesday—it’s a great chance to connect over reading!

Strengthening Community Through STEM

As part of our commitment to building strong learning partnerships beyond the school gates, Ms Thompson coordinated a wonderful opportunity with Guardian Kinder for one of our Grade 5/6 classes, led by Mr Sutcliffe (Leading Teacher STEM).

The students visited the kinder group to engage in hands-on STEM activities, designed to spark curiosity and foster collaboration between our older students and the kinder children.

Following the first visit, Guardian Kinder shared this lovely feedback:

“Our kinder children absolutely loved it. They keep asking when they’ll be back for more, so we’re happy for this to become a regular thing if you are!”

We’re thrilled by the positive response and look forward to developing this cross-age STEM partnership into a regular and enriching experience for both groups of learners.

Lunch Time Art Club

If your child is interested in developing their artistic skills or exploring something new, like crocheting, knitting or watercolours, then they’re warmly invited to join our Art Club!

Held every Friday at lunchtime, the Art Club is open to both primary and secondary students and provides a relaxed, creative space where students can learn, create, and share their work with friends.

A big thank you to Ms Corral for her leadership and inspiration in bringing this opportunity to life and encouraging our students to express themselves through art.
