Friendly Fridays

On the first Friday of every month, our Student Care Captains have been organising a special welcome to school, featuring upbeat music and student leaders greeting their peers at the gates. These mornings have also become an opportunity to raise awareness for important causes within our school community.

For example, on May 9, our Giles House Captains, Claire and Josh, supported by the leaders, handed out pieces of blue twine for students to wear on their wrists in recognition of Do It for Dolly Day, an anti-bullying awareness initiative. You can learn more about this cause here.

The Push-up Challenge

Our Sports Captains, Eliza and Henry, have brought the Push-Up Challenge to Chevalier this year to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Starting June 4 and running for 23 days, this national initiative encourages participants to complete around 140 push-ups each day in honour of lives lost to suicide, while also promoting physical and mental wellbeing. Adding a Chev twist, our leaders are recording push-up totals by House. The House with the most completed push-ups will win a special prize at the end of the challenge. Stay tuned and get involved!

Teddy Bears Picnic and Raising Awareness for Cancer

To support the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea initiative, our Osborne House Captains Sophia and Hudson hosted a Teddy Bears Picnic on May 22 for Year 11 and 12 students. This event was more than just a morning of fun, it was a chance to bring our community together, celebrating childhood teddies and raise awareness about the impact of cancer.

Our Osborne Captains will continue to spread awareness through Home Room activities, yellow ribbons and other awareness initiatives.

Chevalier Youth Council representatives at the May Council meeting

Two of our Chevalier students, Charlie F (Year 10) and Ayla C (Year 9), proudly represented the school and local youth at the recent Wingecarribee Council May Meeting, held on Wednesday May 21. As members of the 2025 Wingecarribee Youth Council, they were invited by Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick to speak at the formal meeting and share insights from their first Youth Council session, which took place late last term at Chev.

In their address, Charlie and Ayla spoke about the importance of youth voice in the local government and the themes emerging from their initial meeting, including mental health support for young people, improved public transport, especially in rural areas and the need for inclusive, welcoming youth spaces across the Shire. They also discussed their commitment to strengthening communication between Council and young people through schools, events, and social media.

Charlie and Ayla represented Chevalier and the youth of our region with confidence and pride. We’re excited to see how they and the wider Youth Council will continue to advocate for positive change throughout the year.

Well done, Charlie and Ayla!

Parent Forum - Teens, Social Media and Mobile Phones

We were thrilled to welcome over 100 parents to a parent forum where we explored the relevant and timely topic of teenagers and social media use. It was a fantastic opportunity to open the conversation in person and share insights into how we can best support our teens in the digital world.

Parents were given a helpful resource with 9 tips and tricks to guide online interactions and safety. You can view the resource here.

Tutor Group – Young and e-safe program

In Home Room Tutor Group, students are currently engaging with the Young & eSafe Program, an initiative from the eSafety Commission, Australia’s independent regulator for online safety.

This program includes short videos and online activities that help students understand how to create a positive and respectful digital environment.

Key topics include:

  1. Respect
  2. Responsibility
  3. Empathy
  4. Resilience
  5. Critical Thinking

These values are central to how we support students in navigating the online world with confidence and care.

If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, online or otherwise, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their Leader of House or Home Room Tutor. Please see the Wellbeing Directory below for a reminder of who those staff members are.
