Health and Physical Education

Knowledge of health and physical education concepts and skills empowers learners to assume lifelong responsibility for developing physical, social and emotional wellness, and the understanding that they are intricately designed by God. People care for and develop their bodies to be able and glorify God and serve Him to full capacity.

Physical Education allows the learner to acknowledge God's amazing Creation of the human body by encouraging continuous development of the body's physical abilities. Physical Education also provides a venue for teaching Godly character, such as working as a member of a team, encouraging others, being gracious when one has been the ‘winner’ and the ‘loser,’ and doing one's best to the glory of God. It affirms respect for rules, values loyalty and fair play, and shapes character through persistence and striving towards a goal.

Year 8 Physical Education is designed to continue developing the foundations established in Year 7 Physical Education, however a large focus is on teams and the students’ learning to undertake a range of roles to help their teams become more effective. Students will explore communication and how this can be used to support their team. Values such as grace, fair play, respect and inclusivity of all team members will also be explored during the year. Students will learn offensive and defensive strategies and how these can be applied in a range of sports. Sports that will be used to teach the curriculum include Basketball, European Handball, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, and Touch Rugby.
