Student Leadership

Dear Saltwater Community,

What a wonderful term we have had! It has been fantastic to see our students actively participating in the Attitudes to School Survey, ensuring their voices are heard and valued in shaping our school environment. Their insights and feedback are helping us continue to foster a connected, inclusive, and student-centred culture here at Saltwater College.

Junior School Council on New School Tours

Representing student voice at Saltwater College was a really enjoyable experience for me. I loved having the opportunity to represent our school to potential new students and their families.

At first, I felt a bit nervous welcoming new families and sharing my experiences during the school tour. But as the tour continued, I started to feel more confident and comfortable speaking in front of others. I believe the most important message for new students and families to hear about our school is that Saltwater is a safe and welcoming place, and that we are proud to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) school.

Through this leadership opportunity, I learned that it’s okay to feel nervous — nerves can actually be a good thing. I developed the confidence to take a deep breath and keep going, even when I feel unsure. This experience has really helped me grow.

I really enjoyed leading and getting my voice out there by sharing my opinions to help improve the school. It felt good to welcome new families and meet potential students. I liked being able to share what is great about our school and show them why this is a great place to learn—so that the kids could think, ‘yeah, I want to go to this school.’ I think the most important message for new students and families is that we are a resilient school. We care about our values, our learning, and of course, the IB! Being part of this leadership opportunity has really helped me improve my confidence. I’ve become better at speaking with people I don’t know and talking in front of a large audience. I’ve also learnt how to make my voice louder and carry better.

Buddies

Prep F and Year 6F had a wonderful time together during their buddy sessions, sharing stories and enjoying some fun in the sun! The older students showed great care and leadership as they read picture books with their Prep buddies and joined them in outdoor play. Laughter, teamwork, and joyful connections filled the air as both year levels embraced the opportunity to build friendships across the school. It was a heartwarming experience that both classes are already looking forward to repeating!

Thank you,
