Year Five

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we progress through the second half of Term 2, students have perfected their poetry, multiplied their mathematical knowledge, and read ravenously through mentor texts and more!
Literacy Highlights - Writing and Reading
In Writing, students have begun to explore information texts. To support their growth as Researchers, they have begun to use the Cornell model of note-taking. Students assess their writing against a rubric and continue to edit and revise their work using VCOP as they work towards individual writing goals.
In Reading, book clubs are in full swing! Students are leading book-based discussions to summarise the story so far, clarify unfamiliar words or phrases, predict using text clues, and note wonderings that are coming to mind as the stories develop. Outside of book club, students are studying a range of texts linked to human rights as they make connections with their new Inquiry Unit.
Mathematics
In Mathematics students are wrapping up their learning about multiplication and division, having extensively studied flexible ways of thinking such as arrays, number lines, the area model and friendly numbers.
During LED sessions, students worked through open-ended problems where they demonstrated their learning so far and acted as experts in paired or group collaborations.
Unit of Inquiry Three - Sharing The Planet
As out third Unit of Inquiry commences, students participated in an Equality Race to visually and kinetically understand the concept of inequality as they began to unpack the Central Idea: Access to opportunities may affect equality for all. Students have begun to explore our first Line of Inquiry: Human Rights and Equality, in local and international contexts.
Year Five
AtoSS survey
Each year, our Year 4–6 students take part in the Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS), which gives them a chance to share how they feel about their learning, friendships, safety, and sense of belonging at school.
This important survey helps us better understand what’s working well for our students and where we can grow. By listening to student voice, we can make informed decisions that strengthen wellbeing, engagement, and learning across the school.
We value our students’ perspectives and are committed to creating a positive, supportive environment where every child can thrive.
Reminders:
20th June - Final camp payments are due.
