Out & About

Year 12 Geography Excursion
Our Frankston High School Year 12 VCE Geography students recently visited Martha Cove in Safety Beach for the fieldwork component of their course, accompanied by their teachers, Ms Hodgson and Mr Whitelaw. The day involved exploring the marina, the beach, and local cafés, with a well-earned lunch break in Dromana. As part of their fieldwork investigations, students analysed the effectiveness of key coastal management strategies, including the human-made fish ladder and breakwater constructions.
A highlight of the day was a presentation and Q&A session in the boardroom with Fiona Blain-Bartle, Operations & Marina Manager at Cambridge Management Services. Students found Fiona to be an engaging and informative speaker, who generously shared valuable insights and data to support their investigations.
Fiona is the first woman in Australasia to be accredited as a Certified Marina Professional (CMP) — a globally recognised qualification held by just 29 professionals worldwide, including only three women. In particular, this achievement made a strong impression on our Year 12 female Geography students, who were inspired by Fiona’s career journey and are now more eager to explore opportunities in coastal and land change management and sustainability.
We are grateful to Fiona for her time and support, and we look forward to maintaining our connection with both her and Cambridge Management Services as valuable contributors to our Future Year 12 Geography students’ learning.
