Term 2 Sports

Year 8 Boys' Soccer

The year 8 Boys' Soccer team had a lot of fun on Wednesday, 21st May, although they did not win any games it was great to see the boys cheering for each other. It was more than teamwork; they played like a family. Well done boys!

Year 7 Boys' AFL

The team has been lucky to advance straight through to the Southern Metro Regional (SMR) competition in August, so they are currently training hard to be ready to bring their A-game.

Year 8 Boys' AFL

The year 8 Boys' AFL team played at Livingston Reserve on the 21st of May. We had two excellent games against Timbarra and Hallam. In both games the boys played as a great team, running well and using amazing sportsmanship, taking the win by over 40 points in both games and are now through to SMR in July. Well done boys.

Year 7/8 Girls' AFL

Have been lucky to advance straight through to SMR in July so will be training hard ready to bring their A-game.

Year 7 Boys' Volleyball

The year 7 Boys' Volleyball went to Dandenong Stadium to compete in SMR. They played some tough teams and came away with one winning set of the day. The boys displayed great sportsmanship and represented the College well. Overall, all students should be very proud of their achievements

Year 8 Girls' Volleyball

The year 8 Girls' Volleyball team, with the addition of Winnie Henry (year 7), went to Dandenong Stadium to compete in the SMR competition and played Frankston High, Albert Park and McKinnon. The girls played a very competitive game against schools who specialise in Volleyball. The girls played a winning set against McKinnon and were rewarded with some Maccas. Overall, I am very proud of these girls' effort – Charli, Winnie, Nika, Tahlia, Olivia, Tayla, Anh, Ava and Alysha.

Division Cross Country

We had over 50 student head to Akoonah Park to represent Berwick in the Division Cross Country. All students should be very proud with their result and effort. We now have over 40 students qualified to represent Berwick College at the end of June at Ballam Park.

Whole School House Athletics

Last week we ran our annual House Athletics. Though a rainy night and a drizzly morning it was fantastic to see many of our students attend and give an event a go or support their House.

Our year 12s looked to be having an amazing time competing in so many events. Many admitting they have not been to an Athletics Day in a few years and possibly wishing they had attended after having such a great day. It's not always about winning, it’s about having fun and giving it a go. The year 12s also got to finish the day with a colour run, their teachers throwing colour at them before completing a lap around the Athletics track.

Well done to everyone who came and participated, gaining points for their House.

Let’s hope next year we see more students come and give it a go and gain points for their House.

NEW LUNCH TIME ACTIVITY – VOLLEYBALL

We are starting up a Volleyball Club that will run at Lunchtime. This will be open to year 7, 8, 9 and 10, boys and girls. Each team will have 10 players in the team.

To be considered for the team you must try out and if you make the team you must commit to training once a week with your team and coach.

This activity has an extra cost as we will be training hard to then represent the school at the Volleyball Victoria Junior Open, a 3-day event in November. The cost for this year to enter the competition, buses for the three days and potentially a uniform could work out between $100 - $200. Please have a chat with your child to see if this is something they would like to participate in and get them to keep an eye out in the student bulletin for tryout dates.
