Senior VSSC Basketball Tournament Recap 🏀 | Thursday 29th May – Nunawading Stadium
Berwick College had a fantastic showing at the Senior VSSC Basketball Tournament last Thursday, with seven teams proudly representing the College — two girls’ teams and five boys' teams competing across Division 1 and 2.
With several strong and talented schools entered, the standard of basketball was high, and each division’s winner secured a spot in the State Finals later this term.
Girls Division 1: Our Division 1 Girls were dominant all day, finishing undefeated and claiming the title with an impressive 35–14 victory over Wesley College in the Grand Final.
Girls Division 2: The Division 2 Girls started the day strongly, recording a convincing win over SEDA College before falling just short in a 26–21 loss to Chairo Christian School in a tight contest.
Boys Division 1 – Berwick Blue: The Division 1 Boys were superb throughout the day, going undefeated and defeating Wesley College 41–25 in a high-energy Grand Final. On the way, they also secured wins over Rowville Sports Academy, Luther College and Templestowe College.
Boys Division 1 – Berwick White & Grey: Berwick White narrowly missed a spot in the final, losing one pool game that proved costly, missing out on percentage. Berwick Grey finished with 1 win, 2 losses, and a draw in what was a solid effort from a developing group who competed hard in every match.
Boys Division 2 – Berwick Blue & White: Our Berwick Blue Division 2 Boys had a brilliant day, taking out the Grand Final with a strong performance against Beaconhills College to be crowned champions. Berwick White had a tough day at the office, going down in all games but showing great resilience and learning plenty about areas to build on moving forward.
✨ It was a fantastic day of basketball, and our Senior teams represented Berwick College with pride, sportsmanship and respect toward all schools and officials. A huge thank you to all the teachers, coaches and parents who supported the teams on the day – your help and presence made everything run smoothly and added to a great atmosphere.
We now look forward to seeing our Division 1 and 2 Girls and Boys teams take on the best in the State at the State Finals later this term!
Berwick College Basketball Academy Students Selected for National Championships!!
We are incredibly proud to announce that four of our outstanding Berwick College Basketball Academy student-athletes have been selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming School Sport Australia (SSA) National Championships.
Congratulations to Parker Rivet and Zach Morrell who have been selected in the 16 Years and Under Boys' team, and to Destiny Windsor, who will represent Victoria in the 12 Years and Under Girls' division. We are also thrilled to acknowledge Steph Nellen, who has earned an emergency selection for the 16 Years and Under Girls' team.
Adding to this fantastic news, we’re proud to share that our Director of the Basketball Academy, Chris Pentland, will once again be at the helm as Head Coach of the 16 Years and Under Boys' team. Chris brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role and is looking forward to the challenge ahead as he guides the team through a highly competitive national campaign.
This year’s championships will be held at the South Pine Sports Complex in Brendale, Queensland, from July 26 to August 1, bringing together the country’s most talented young basketballers in a week of elite-level competition.
Representing Victoria at a National level is a remarkable achievement, and it reflects the hard work, dedication and integrity these student-athletes consistently demonstrate both on and off the court.Â
The entire Berwick College community is right behind Parker, Zach, Destiny, Steph, and Chris as they prepare to take on the best in Australia.
We will be watching closely and cheering loudly.Â
Go Team Vic and go Berwick!
