Languages - Indonesian

Making strides in Indonesian!

This term, both year 7 and 8 students have begun their Indonesian language learning journey by describing themselves. The unit “Identitas Saya” (My Identity) has asked students to reflect on what information is important to share about themselves when introducing yourself to someone. Students have used Saling Silang 1 textbook alongside interactive games, quizzes to learn how to say their names, describe their likes and their cultural identity in Indonesian. Students are writing letters to send across to our Sister School ESTV Ailue in Timor Leste, introducing themselves and creating real life global connections!

In year 8 HAP students have been learning how to discuss “Keluarga Saya” (My family), providing a family tree. They have continued to expand on their knowledge and skills from year 7 to build their language of describing families' interests, what they like doing together as well as their personalities and physical descriptions.

We are excited to announce that our first visit from our Sister School ESTV Ailue is fast approaching! Coming all the way from Timor Leste, Filomena will work alongside the Indonesian team to visit Indonesian classes as well as work alongside our Principal, Josie Millard, and VM teacher Colleen Graham. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to hear all about life in Timor Leste.

Indonesian teachers Bu Renae Smith, Bu Colleen Graham, Bu Lauren Manolitsa and Bu Marissa Mundy had the exciting opportunity to attend the VILTA (Victorian Indonesian Language Teacher’s Association) Conference, developing more knowledge about how to create engaging curriculum from other Indonesian teaching professionals.
