Year 12
'Push Limits, Embrace Growth and Make It Count'
Our year 12 students recently participated in an enriching experience known as 'Level Up Day,' designed to equip them with essential life skills and knowledge as they prepare to transition from school to the broader world. This day was aimed at fostering well-rounded young adults ready to face future challenges.
Workplace Rights and Financial Literacy
Students began the day by delving into the fundamentals of workplace rights and financial literacy. They explored topics such as pay entitlements, superannuation, tax obligations and home loans. A guest accountant provided valuable insights, answering students' questions and offering personalized advice tailored to their individual circumstances. This session empowered students with the knowledge to navigate the complexities of the modern workforce confidently.
Respectful Relationships and Consent
Understanding the importance of respectful interactions, students engaged in a session focused on respectful relationships and consent. Through group discussions, they examined appropriate ways individuals can express interest in one another, ensuring that all parties feel comfortable and respected. This activity underscored the significance of mutual respect and clear communication in all relationships.
Career Pathways and University Applications
Students participated in a careers session where they learned how to access the VTAC portal and navigate the process of applying for university and TAFE courses. This hands-on experience provided them with practical tools to make informed decisions about their educational and career pathways.
Self-Reflection and Wellbeing
Recognising the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing, students collaborated with our wellbeing team to reflect on their identities beyond their roles as students. They identified core values they wish to uphold as young adults and discussed strategies to manage current stressors effectively. This session encouraged students to envision the individuals they aspire to become and the legacy they wish to leave.
Student choice
The final lesson of the day had students choosing an activity to engage in. These activities included watching Ice Age in the PAC, playing Basketball against the year 11s, completing board games, bingo, trivia, colouring in, competing with a Wii game, electronic games, yoga, origami and a word search competition. It was lovely to see the students engage with the year 11 students in a competitive and encouraging manner.
Athletics Day and Community Spirit
Adding a touch of fun and camaraderie, year 12 students participated in the Athletics Day, marking their first involvement in this event. They cheered each other on, demonstrating school spirit and teamwork. The day culminated in a vibrant colour run, symbolizing the unity and joy shared among the students.
The Release of Coco the Butterfly
Students witnessed the emergence of 'Coco,' a butterfly that had been nurtured in the Year 12 office. Together, students released Coco into the school's rose garden.
'Level Up Day' was a testament to our commitment to developing not only academically proficient students but also compassionate, informed, and resilient individuals. As our year 12 students stand on the threshold of their futures, they are equipped with the tools and mindset to navigate the world with confidence and integrity.
