Wellbeing - Courtyard takeover

On Tuesday 29th August, we had members of Werribee Football Club, Junubi Wyndham, Youth Projects, Headspace, Wyndham City Youth Services, and North Melbourne Huddle join our school community during the first break to run some fun activities around the courtyard, including having the Street Surfer bus for us to enjoy. We were able to ask them some questions about well-being and their roles, with these answers being collated to share with the students.

Q: What Made you want to pursue a career in wellbeing?

A: A book called “ Freedom Writers Diary”. I've known a lot of people who have struggled with things in their lives, this book inspired me to want to work with people to make a difference.

A: Love making people feel like they have control over their own lives. Love building communities and helping people feel safe.

A: Having accessed youth services when I was 14. Really wanted to give back and provide the same support.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give someone wanting to help in the community?

A: Be kind and help others, community work is always a job.

A: Find other people who want to help too - we are stronger together. A conversation can make a big difference.

A: Have love for those you serve.

Q: How do you care for your own mental health and well-being?

A: I play sports.

A: Lots of walks, music, chilling with my friends, taking time to check in with myself.

A: I have people who actively check in on me, therapy is essential (Everyone should be in therapy!) and I always do things that make me happy (cook, late night drives, etc.)

Thank you to all of the community members who came into the school to share their knowledge and ran various activities with us.
