Year 12 VCAL Class

Handmade soap was created by VCAL students in the classroom or PDS. The project was successfully completed with the student's active participation. Students selected their own colours and fragrances to add to the soap foundation after cutting and melting the soap base.

Sofia Koktzidis, their VCAL teacher, also provided students with the opportunity to apply their work-related skills by following all OHS rules and regulations. During the applied learning activity, students were able to use their communication and collaboration skills successfully and demonstrate their knowledge of the personal development skills subject.

A candle project was undertaken by VCAL students for a market stall event at the end of this term. Students melted wax and mixed fragrances and colors to create different types of candles in order to cater to the preferences of the majority of people. As they had to use all the skills, they learned in VCAL throughout the year, the students spent a lot of time preparing all the ingredients, working on them, and ultimately completing the project.

During the preparation of the recipe, students applied their math skills by measuring the ingredients and following the recipe.

As a result of their literacy skills, they were able to follow all the instructions for the project step by step, and as a result of their WRS skills, they were alerted to all the OH&S issues and followed the safety rules.

To achieve success in skills and attributes such as collaboration, teamwork, self-motivation, problem-solving creativity, communication, organisation, time management, and more, students dedicate their personal motivation and enthusiasm to the project as part of their PDS skills.

Having all these skills will prepare them for the real world and enable them to succeed.

This way it will help them gain the confidence to compete in the job market and have the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen field. They will also be able to work with a variety of people and be able to think outside the box when presented with challenges. Lastly, they will have the knowledge to make informed decisions and the mindset for success.
