Chemistry Class

Our Chemistry practical involved the use of carboxylic acids and alcohols to produce esters. In other words, esterification. Esters can be found throughout the natural world. They are known for producing a range of pleasant fragrances and flavors and occur naturally in many foods, such as fruit, as well as in alcoholic beverages. 

 

We observed the smell that came through the process, and assessed its qualities; specifically, its smell. Most of the smells were not the nicest, some of them smelled like acetone 

or fish sauce, while some smelled the tiniest bit fruity.
