Principal's Message to the School Community

Hello KPS Community

At our assembly on the 14/8 the first set of classroom awards linked to the learning disposition of collaboration were presented.  Recently I received some useful feedback from our community that it would be helpful if we published the reason children were being selected for a learning disposition award to help know what behaviour traits families can foster at home for each disposition.  Here is a snapshot of some of the awards from yesterday and a link to the book reading viewed.

  • Hunter for collaborating with his peers to produce a modified version of a classic fairytale.  Hunter confidently shared his ideas and listened to the ideas of others, then worked with his group to agree on the details of the narrative.
  • Anabelle for working collaboratively with her classmates.  She enjoys working in reading groups, sharing her connections and strategies.
  • Diesel for always contributing ideas and help and taking on feedback from others during hands on tasks.
  • Xavier for being a valued member of any team he joins.  Xavier is proactive in putting his ideas forward, but also respectfully listens to his peers.
  • Beau for working with others to help them achieve success.
  • Etta for actively and positively contributing as a member of your team to produce a successful poster design in Art.
  • Eve for working collaboratively with her partner to estimate and measure the capacity of different shaped and sized containers.
  • James for his fantastic contribution to group discussions.  He is always willing to listen to others and share his thoughts about a given topic.
  • Blake for practicing communication and delegation skills when working in small groups for an assortment of projects and activities in class.
  • Isabella for contributing to class and small group discussions in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Danieka for always involving yourself enthusiastically during the cooking program and working selflessly with others.

The fourth disposition to be explored over the next fortnight is Adventurous. At assembly, we introduced it by playing a book reading using the picture storybook titled Take a Breath, by Sujean Rim. See the link below and the following definition of what it means to be Adventurous at KPS.

I am adventurous when I:

• am willing to have a go

• use my initiative to try new things

• take risks in my learning

• believe in myself.

Kind regards,
