Week 9 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a lovely way up to begin our season of Spring. During Spring, we are reminded of a time of rejuvenation and new beginnings; a time of renewal and growth. Just as flowers bloom and the earth comes to life, so too, do we strive to cultivate and deepen our faith with Christ.

Father's Day

I hope all the Fathers, Grandfathers and special friends had a lovely day yesterday. A special thank you to our Parents and Friends who organised a great Father's Day Stall last Wednesday and for the most wonderful Father's Day Breakfast last Friday. We have a very special community with over 123 dads,  grandfathers or special friends  attending the breakfast and enjoying some special time in their child's or grandchild's classroom.

A huge thank you to our generous families for their generous donations.

  • Village Bakery Brunswick
  • Bakers delight Coburg
  • Coles Coburg

Thankyou

A special thank you to the dads for helping dismantle the bookshelves in the library, it was greatly appreciated!

'Experience Music' Recital -Thursday September 7th @ 6:00pm

This Thursday night the students who participate in this amazing instrumental music  program will perform a recital for their families and friends. The students will play their instruments, sing songs and perform to an audience, many of them for the first time.

We offer this program as an extracurricular program at St Fidelis for families who wish their child to learn an instrument. Since last year the program has grown  to 38 students  who participate in weekly lessons. I'm looking forward to such a wonderful night.

SUNSMART: wearing of hats begins this week

St Fidelis is a SunSmart School and our policy reflects the recommendations of the SunSmart organisation. The Bureau of Meteorology provides information about the times of day UV levels are forecast to reach 3 or higher, meaning that sun protection is recommended for all skin types. In Victoria, UV levels regularly reach 3 or higher from mid-August to the end of April. As part of general SunSmart strategies, our school:

  • Requires all students and staff to wear hats that protect the face, neck and ears (legionnaire, broad-brimmed or bucket style) and suitable clothing whenever they are outside (e.g. recess, lunch, sport, excursions)
  • Requires children outdoors without hats, to sit in a designated shaded area during play times from the beginning of September to the end of April or whenever UV levels reach three or more. NO HAT- NO PLAY.

All staff and parents are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the free SunSmart App, or at sunsmart.com.au or the widget on our website.

All children are to wear hats beginning this week. We will be give the children and families this week to remember that a hat will be required from now on until the end of April.

MACSIS Survey

In 2023, our school will participate in Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSIS). MACSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings of  students, families and staff about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. Our school believes it is important for families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.

The survey will have been emailed to all families last  week.  It will be appreciated if you complete it by September 15th.
