Kids Unlimited afterschool programs for Term 2: Robotics, Coding, Chess

Each term at Kids Unlimited we run a range of competitions with great prizes to extend and engage our young people. Take a look below to see what is on offer this term. Remember you have to be in it to win it!

Entries are open for term 1 

 Competition brief: To create a maze game from scratch! Your maze can be your own design and can be added upon in whatever way you like; such as adding a timer, enemies, collectables, random new rooms when reaching the edge of the screen etc. the only limit is your imagination! (And the clone limit of 300). Once the project is completed students should send their scratch project to https://forms.office.com/r/gw1TiU2mBNWhat we are looking for in your entries:

  •  Originality (How original the maze and it’s additions are, if lots of other students use the same exact idea then it will be less original) 
  • How effective/efficient the code blocks are (if a 50 block of code can do the same thing as a 100 blocks, the 50 block code would win)
  • How much fun your game is with all it’s additions (and if the game can be played from start to finish as intended)

Students may choose which division to enter into and should specify when completing the google form which one they are entering. Here are the different tasks for the different levels. Beginner:

  • Be able to complete the maze
  • Create at least 1 animation on a sprite by changing costumes
  • Add at least 2 sound effects somewhere in the game
  • Add at least 1 new feature to the game such as enemies, timer, moving obstacles or something elseto make the game more interesting. 

Intermediate /Advanced:

  • Be able to complete the maze
  • Create at least one of your own sprites and animate that sprite using costumes in the game
  • Add at least 4 sound effects somewhere in the game
  • Add at least 2 new features to the game such as enemies, timer, moving obstacles or something else to make the game more interesting

​​Prizes: Each division will win an exciting Computer gaming/coding bundle including an LED rainbow keyboard, mouse and headset. Deadline: We are accepting entries until 5pm Friday the 11th April, 2025.
