WELCOME TO TERM 2!
This term as part of the Literacy block the Grade 5/6 students are reading different serial reads or class texts.
Grade 5 are reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold.
Grade 5 students have been writing summaries about their new serial read.
The Grade 6 students are reading Free Diving by Lorrae Coffin - one of three poetry texts this term.
The students have been learning about what a dangerous occupation Free Diving was and still is today, in different parts of the world and responding to the text. They have also been learning about using 'appositives' in a sentence.
Our Grade 6 students have been proudly showing off their new 'Class of 2025' polo shirts. Don't they look snazzy!
During Numeracy the Grade 5/6 students have been learning about Fractions - comparing and ordering fractions on a numberline with and without related denominators, identifying and representing equivalent fractions on a numberline and simplifying fractions using the highest common factor.
As part of our Unit of Work around Natural Disasters, the Grade 6 students were lucky enough to have the Greens Party candidate for Fraser, Huong Chuong, come in and share what it's like to work in politics.
The students asked many great questions about how the government would react if there was a natural disaster.
