Open Parachute - Behavioural Challenges at Home
Is your child experiencing behavioural challenges at home? Are you looking for support in understanding the underlying reasons or seeking helpful tips and strategies to calm and settle them? We are here to assist you in finding effective ways to support your child's emotional and behavioural development.
Open Parachute is an online platform that we are using as a school to dig deeper into student well-being. In class students view videos of age appropriate challenges faced by students, and are then provided with proven strategies by clinical psychologist Dr Hayley Watson. This creates proactive positive mental health, and comes from research designed to reduce incidents of a range of mental health challenges, potential conflict and bullying.

Overview of the module:
School Attendance
Every Day Counts: The importance of regular school attendance.
At Sunshine Heights Primary School, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that brings.
Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.
We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but please consider ways to do so with minimal disruptions. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships or schoolwork, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.
If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to their teacher ormyself, Vicki McMahon about getting support. We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school and we are here to offer support.
If your child is absent, please either report the absence via Compass or by ringing the school. For more information about the importance of everyday attendance, see Attendance and Missing School.
Remember, Every Day Counts.
