Social-Emotional Learning

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Respectful Relationships aims to embed a culture of respect and equality across our entire community. Using this approach has been proven to result in positive impacts on academic outcomes, mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.
During the year, students will learn about building connections with peers. This program will complement the social emotional learning explored through ‘The Resilience Project’.
THE RESILIENCE PROJECT
This year, RGLPS is once again partnering with The Resilience Project (TRP). The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill health and to build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
‘The Resilience Project’ focuses on explicit teaching around four key themes: Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy. All classes participate at least once Resilience Project session each week and reinforce the related skills and learning across the school week. Each student will receive a personal Resilience Project Student Journal.
TEAM WELLBEING DAYS
The Victorian Education Department's FISO 2.0 (Framework for Improving Student Outcomes) has been redesigned to place learning and wellbeing at the centre of school improvement.
The purpose of our RGLPS Wellbeing Days is to promote positive Mental Health and Wellbeing to our students and parents. We aim to equip students with the tools to live healthy, fulfilled lives by holding a half day each term celebrating and focusing on mental health and wellbeing.
Term Wellbeing Days are held in the final week of each term and will focus on one of the school values (Kindness, Persistence, Respect, Responsibility). Most classes will also link activities to other classroom programs and learning such as the term inquiry unit. Teachers will incorporate student voice and agency as much as possible by asking children to vote or select between activities to enjoy on the day. Classes may play games, enjoy crafts, watch a movie, hold a dress up or a class celebration such as a party.
