Dear Parents,

As I write the final newsletter for Term 1 I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for working in partnership with us to ensure every child has been able to flourish and shine in Term 1 at St Joseph’s.

I have been very proud of the learning that has occured and the way learning communities have established positive routines and effective learning environments. I take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff for all they have done to set up successful and thriving learning for the 2025 school year.

I will be taking Long Service Leave in Term 2 and returning to St Joseph's in Term 3 to continue to lead this magnificent school. I will be travelling to Western Australia and Central Australia throughout the term and look forward to seeing more of our magnificent country.

I leave the school in the capable hands of our leaders Vice Principal Sue Jackson, Deputy organisation and operations Trish Brennan and Wellbeing leader Kate Huon and our wonderful team who will all work collaboratively to ensure our school is managed effectively.

Positive Behaviour Approach

St. Joseph’s is committed to ensuring a safe and caring environment that promotes personal growth and positive self-esteem for all.

We understand that it is important to develop self-awareness and self-management amongst students and that this promotes well-being and a positive culture in our school community.

We recognise that children are in their formative years and need help and guidance to make appropriate decisions.

We ensure there is unconditional positive regard for every student and zero tolerance for anti social behaviors.

Positive student management in St. Joseph’s school seeks to protect personal and school community safety, restore relationships, encourage reconciliation, enhance well-being, foster responsibility, enable personal growth, and promote the common good.

We use a positive behaviour approach knowing that there is the belief that each person is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), with the inherent dignity that this implies and promote a respectful positive approach to ensure our students have the necessary skills, dispositions and support to manage themselves and flourish and succeed.

We have the highest expectations on the way we respect, encourage and allow students to shine as outlined in our positive behaviour approach below.

Our high standards of behaviour include zero tolerance to the following actions.

Any physical or violent behaviour
Swearing
Put downs of any nature
Disrespect

If a child displays any of the above behaviours they are removed from the learning community to reflect and have a check in and chat and they are then given an appropriate consequence. We use our REACT model of restorative process to ensure a thorough approach is in place.

Please be rest assured that our wonderful staff follow and investigate every incident using our problem solved spiral of inquiry. This may take time as we ensure all sides of a situation are listened to and then we go through a process of analysis before actioning any consequences. We empower our students to ensure they inform us if any of these behaviours occur and we ask if they come home and discuss a situation with you that you promptly email us so we can investigate. We ask that you refrain from trying to solve it yourself but allow the school time to investigate and take action.

Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for 2026. If you know of anyone who would like to enrol their child at our wonderful school please let them know to ring the office for a tour. Please let any prospective families know they can just ring the office to book a tour. Our biggest marketing tool is word of mouth so please spread the word in our community how special our school is.

A big thank you to our parents and friends group led by Beth, for volunteering to wrap our Easter Raffle prizes. Thank you again to families who donated and to those who have brought back their tickets. If you would like to purchase more tickets please get in touch with the office. All money and tickets need to be in by Thursday, April 3rd.

Upcoming events

End of term assembly

We invite all of our community to our end of term assembly including the Holy week service and Spirit of St Joseph’s awards This will be held at 1.00pm on Friday 4th April. Students will be dismissed at 2.30pm.

Students return for the commencement of Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April. Please note Anzac Day Public Holiday is on Friday 25th April.

Anzac Day Parade- Friday 25th April. Meet at RSL at 10.40am to march to the Crib Point Cenotaph. All welcome. This is a significant day for our school with our history underpinned by our connection to our Defence Force families.

Mothers Day Celebrations- All invited to our Mothers Day celebrations on Friday 9th May including a wonderful Mothers Day lunch and reflection. Save the date and invite friends and family.

I wish everyone a holy and safe Easter holidays and I look forward to continuing on our journey of striving for excellence and the full flourishing of every student in all that we do at St. Joseph’s when I return in Term 3.
