Secondary Sub School Rooms 19 - 27

Stefania Mantinioti - Secondary Sub School Leader
As we reach Week 8 of Term 1, it’s wonderful to reflect on the incredible progress and engagement shown by our Secondary Sub School students.
Students have been actively participating in painting the mural in one of our playgrounds. Although the artwork is still in progress, it already looks vibrant and full of creativity. The students’ dedication and teamwork in bringing this project to life have been truly inspiring. We look forward to seeing the final masterpiece!
As part of Harmony Week, students had the chance to participate in the Chinese Dragon Dancing Incursion. They enjoyed celebrating and embracing diverse cultures together.
Our VPC students have been doing a fantastic job in the school café. From making delicious beverages to selling sweets, they’ve shown exceptional effort and professionalism. Additionally, some of our Senior Secondary students have been preparing food orders for the canteen, serving both staff and students. It’s amazing to see such progress and hard work so early in the year.
Last week, our Future Ready students had the opportunity to visit the Melbourne Museum and participate in the Road to Zero experience, a world-first road safety education complex developed by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in partnership with the Melbourne Museum.
Students explored the Road to Zero Experience Space, which featured immersive and interactive technologies, such as:
• A virtual reality journey through time, traveling from 1970 to 2055.
• An elevator simulation that allowed students to experience a dramatic ‘drop’ from the 11th floor of the Royal Exhibition Building.
• A digital exploration of the famous ‘Graham’ sculpture, designed to show how the human body would need to be built to survive a car crash.
This hands-on experience provided valuable lessons on road safety and left a lasting impact on our students.
I would like to express my gratitude to the teachers, education support staff, leaders, and parents and carers who continue to support our students’ learning and growth. Your dedication plays a vital role in helping our students thrive and achieve success.
I look forward to sharing with you even more achievements in the coming weeks!
ROOM 22
Room 22 kicked off the year with great enthusiasm, as all students were excited to begin the Future Ready Program (previously known as Advance). This program offers funding for a variety of activities designed for secondary school students, including but not limited to:
- Mentoring to help students understand and achieve their full potential
- Recognised training, work placements, or volunteering opportunities
- Leadership development
- Hands-on learning and growth experiences
In Semester 1, Room 22 students are studying a diverse range of subjects, including Numeracy, Literacy, Science, Personal and Social Capabilities (PSC), Health and PE, Art, and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKG).
Every Wednesday this term, students have been engaging in Inter-School Sports. Recently, they completed a unit on cricket, where they learned how to bowl, bat, field, and play the game. They are now in their second week of lacrosse lessons and will continue to develop their skills throughout the remaining of the term.
Last week, Room 22 went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum to participate in the new Safe Journeys Program. This hands-on, curriculum-based program includes a visit to the Road to Zero Education Complex at the museum. Developed in collaboration with teachers, the program helps students enhance their trip-planning skills—such as choosing the safest route to and from school—and promotes safe practices for road and public transport.
This week, the students have another exciting excursion lined up to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), where they will explore "The Story of the Moving Image," delving into the past, present, and future of moving images.
Room 22 is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Term 1 holidays and wishes everyone a wonderful Easter break. It's hard to believe how quickly the term has gone by!
