Principal's Ponderings

From our Principal - Mr Chad Smit

Standing At The Fence Line

Recently, I found myself travelling interstate for a school principal's conference. As our plane descended, wheels screeching softly onto the runway, my eyes caught a little scene that has stayed with me ever since.

There, right at the edge of the airport fence line, stood a family: Mum, Dad and two young children. The mum was gently holding the hand of a little boy, who must have been around four or five, his face absolutely lit up with amazement. The dad was cradling a toddler, perhaps two years old, both of them staring, wide-eyed, as our plane roared past.

It was mesmerising.

The awe, the wonder, the pure joy of simply watching something bigger than themselves unfold.

And I thought, isn't that how we are invited to live as Christians? To stand, hand-in-hand with our Father, looking forward in wide-eyed wonder at the incredible things God is doing and about to do?

As we launch into Term Two at DCS, I believe that is exactly the posture God invites us to take. A posture of awe, expectancy, and trust.

Psalm 66:5 says, "Come and see what God has done, His awesome deeds for mankind!"

Not "hurry past" or "rush through", but come and see. Stop. Stand in wonder. Be amazed.

Here at DCS, we are blessed to walk alongside our students, these precious image-bearers of God and guide them as they explore the wonder of His world. It is not just about textbooks and whiteboards (although they are helpful!), it is about helping young hearts discover that the world is bursting with the fingerprints of a loving Creator.

As C.S. Lewis beautifully put it, "At the end of all things, we will find that heaven was far more real and more wonderful than we ever imagined."

Every new term is a new chance to see God at work, in learning breakthroughs, in friendships restored and in acts of courage, kindness and faith.

So, as we throw open the gates of Term Two, let us stand at the fence line together. Let us hold our students’ hands with love and patience, watching in awe as they launch into new adventures. Let us cheer each other on, knowing our great God is at work in every heart and in every moment.

The runway is clear. The adventure is waiting.

Let’s stand in wonder and watch what our awesome God will do.

Shalom,

Chad Smit
