Notes from the Principal

Welcome back. I hope everyone enjoyed their school holidays and are ready and rearing to get into Term 2!

Thank you

I would like to thank all the families that came to school over the holidays and helped out with watering the environment centre and gardening.  We appreciate you taking time out of your holidays to help. Thank you to the Young family for bringing in their tractor to help with some gardening work and cleaning out the sandpit, and for Carly Behnke pitching in and helping. It looks great, with all the agapanthus removed from the front driveway. It has really opened up that area.

Indonesian

Halo! (hello). The students are enjoying their Indonesian lessons online. The teacher's name is Miss Olivia Modine. Lessons include practising greetings, counting and having short conversations. Terimah kasih (thank you) Bu Modine. We look forward to learning more this term.

Cross Country

We held our Cross Country down at the Wannon River on Wednesday. After hardly seeing rain for a LONG time, we couldn't believe it when some arrived - just in time to start the race. Every child who ran, finished their race. Every child who participated showed their RED GUM Values. Congratulations to all of our students. Thomas, Emma, Cooper, Sienna, Ivy and Evie have elected to run at the SGSSA Cross Country next Wednesday. Good luck team!

Division Athletics

Today, Emma, Cooper, Ivy and Maddie competed at District Athletics in Warrnambool.

Emma competed in high jump, shot put and 200m.

Maddie competed in hurdles, 100m and 200m.

Cooper competed in discus, high jump and long jump.

Ivy competed in high jump and 800m.

Well done to you all and thank you to the parents for taking them down to compete.

We will have the results and photos in our next newsletter.

Scholastic Book Club Orders

Student orders out of the current book club catalogue are to be ordered and paid online by Monday 12th May.

Golf Day Catering

Parents Club have catered for the Mooralla Ladies Golf Day today.  A very big thank you to everyone who has helped organise, cook and help out on the day.  We appreciate everyone's willingness to donate food and their time for this fundraiser.

Mother's Day Stall

Parents Club will be holding a Mother's Day stall on Monday 5th May at school.  Students can buy presents before school starts and staff and helpers will wrap them.  All students are allowed to bring in up to $10 to buy something special.

Anzac Day Service

It was lovely to see nearly half of our students participate in the Cavendish Anzac Ceremony last Friday. I was extremely proud to march with the students. They listened, showed respect and dignity. Thank you to Heather Funk for creating a beautiful wreath which Emma and Pippa laid on the school's behalf.

Cavendish PS Open Day

We will be holding an Open Day at Cavendish PS next Tuesday 6th May from 9am to 3pm. Family, friends, prospective future students and everyone in the community are invited to attend.  Come along and have a look at the school in action.  Could we please ask if families could kindly provide a small plate of food for morning tea (no nuts please - except the Principal haha).

School Council

Our next School Council Meeting has been set for Wednesday 7th May.  This will be held at school at 7pm.

Hamilton Eisteddfod

Mrs Huf has submitted the entries for our students to participate in the Hamilton Eisteddfod. The whole school will perform on Thursday 5th June for the full day.  Monday 16th June (Speech and Drama) will involve all Year 4/6 students plus a couple from Year 2/3.

Welcome

We have been hosting Miss Erin Glenn from Deakin University who is completing her Bachelor of Education. Erin has been observing in the 4-6 classroom, and also planning and teaching lessons in F-1 and 4-6.  Erin will finish her placement next Friday 9th May.

Next week we will also welcome two work experience students - Kayla Daffey and Sydney Todd.

Do It For Dolly Day/School Values Launch

Junior School Council are helping organise a special day on Friday 9th May. We invite all students and staff to dress in blue and bring a donation to support the cause. You can also donate via this link: https://www.dollysdream.org.au/join/cpsschoolvaluesanddoitfordollyday

We will also "launch" our new school values on this day, making it a day of celebration and kindness.

It's Official

After having some well earned time off, Miss P has officially handed in her resignation as a Teacher at Cavendish Primary School.  We thank her for all she has done for our school during her decades of teaching and wish her all the best in retirement. She will be back, filling in when we need her.  She can't escape us yet!!
