Principal's Message

It has been fantastic welcoming back our students over the past 2 weeks. Some families chose to have an extended holiday in between the public holidays. It’s been great to have full classes this week.
Over the holiday break a new hopscotch marking was painted near the sandpit. The shop fronts in the Prep play space were painted and we now have a post office and a store. Both of these additions to our school were provided from funds from our Parent’s Group.
Our big project for this year is our new playground. The new playground will be installed in the area currently inhabited by the old portable classrooms. We have had initial designs for the playground and after we consult with our children on what features they’d like in the playground we are ready to build.
The hold up in the playground works has been the demolition of the old portable buildings. We have been working with the Department of Education to secure a date that the buildings will be demolished. The good news is that we are getting closer to knowing when the works will be booked in. We have had preliminary meetings with the construction company that will be removing the buildings and are hopeful that works may begin in the July school holidays.
Once the site is clear, the playground construction will begin. As a community we raised a lot of funds for the playground and we really want to see the project completed this year so all students can benefit from their fundraising efforts.
Mother’s Day Breakfast and Stall
A big thank you again to our wonderful Parent’s Group for organising a Mum’s and special persons breakfast for next Thursday 8 May. It will be wonderful to have our very important people onsite to enjoy breakfast with their children. A big thank you to our before and after school provider TheirCare for sponsoring the coffee van.
Our annual Mother’s Day stall will take place throughout the day on Friday 9 May. Every child is invited to bring some money to school to purchase a special gift for their Mum from the stall. A big thankyou to those parents who are volunteering at the stall, please contact Dionne, our Parent’s Group president, if you are available to assist.
Montrose Township Group activities
The Montrose Township Group are a wonderful resource for Montrose and a great way to develop community connections. They have a number of projects at the moment that our community can be involved in.

Personal Leave
I will be taking leave from Monday 5th -16th May as I have surgery on my hand. I have a thumb that keeps dislocating and requires surgery to ensure it stays in place. Even playing basketball can be dangerous for your health as you get older!
Nicole Tierney will be acting principal in my place.
