Grade 5

Welcome Back!
Firstly, the Grade 5 students should be very proud of themselves for the way they have settled back into classroom routines after the holidays. We are looking forward to another great term of teaching and learning!
Literacy
This term, students will dive into the inspiring novel War Horse, a powerful story set during World War I that highlights the themes of compassion and true friendship. Through this text, students will begin their syntax and grammar learning by identifying and including appositives in their writing, using the novel as a mentor text to strengthen their literacy skills.
Numeracy
Students have begun the term learning about multiplication and division of large numbers.
Over the next two weeks, the students will be learning about:
-Finding unknown numbers in multiplication and division equations.
-Calculating the perimeter of shapes, including compound shapes.
-Solving problems involving perimeter.
-Measuring area.
Inquiry
This term's big question, "What leads people to migrate, and what was colonial life like?" will guide our Inquiry learning. Students will begin by exploring their own family trees to uncover migration stories and personal connections to this topic.
