Term 2, Week 3 – Grade 4
Welcome back to Term 2! We trust everyone enjoyed a fantastic break — and perhaps even a visit from the Easter Bunny! The students have settled seamlessly back into their routines and have already produced some outstanding work.
Literacy Block
In Literacy, students are continuing their Early and Medieval Africa unit. They have focused on the Kingdoms of Kush, Aksum, and the Lost Kingdoms. They have also explored why salt was once considered as valuable as gold, and learned about the life of Prince Sundiata (/sundiah*ta/) of the Mali Empire.Later this term, students will complete their first Novel Study, reading Peter Brown’s The Wild Robot, before beginning an exploration of the Dynasties of China.
Maths Block
In Maths, students have started the term by focusing on multiplication and division concepts. This has included developing their knowledge of number sequences and facts for 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9. They have also explored how multiplying by factors of 10 affects a number.This week, students will begin learning algorithms for multiplying four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, before shifting their focus to decimal numbers.
