Literacy The Grade 2’s will continue their Core Knowledge unit, ‘Geography of Australia,’ in Week 3. Their syntax and grammar focus will be to develop questions using who, what, where, when, why and how. In Week 4, they will begin a new Core Knowledge unit, ‘Uluru.’ Their syntax and grammar focus will be on beginning with subordinating conjunctions – if, when, before and after.
During explicit phonics instruction, students will be learning to read and spell the new sounds, ‘tch’ and voiced ‘th’ in words such as ‘hatch,’ ‘fetch’ ‘thud’ and ‘thank.’ In handwriting, they will be focusing on clockwise letters, ‘x’, ‘z’, ‘h’, ‘p’ and ‘k’.
Numeracy Students will learn to read and write 4 digit numbers, use positional language and explore the commutativity of multiplication. |
