Literacy

The Preps are continuing their author study of Julia Donaldson. In the first two weeks of term, they explored the texts, ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and ‘The Gruffalo.’ During the next two weeks they will focus on the texts, ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘Zog.’ The students will be explicitly taught rhyme, vocabulary, syntax and grammar through these texts. They will practice writing modelled sentences that require the students to identify the ‘who’ ‘doing’, ‘where’ and ‘when’ components of a sentence.

The students will also be focusing on the new sounds ‘j’, ‘w’ and ‘v’ through explicit phonics, handwriting and reading fluency instruction.

Numeracy

Students will be learning about the ‘equals’ symbol, informal measurements of length and an introduction to addition.
