Swimming Program

Our Swimming Program commenced this week for some grades and is running very smoothly. Students in grades Prep, 5/6 and 1/2 Murphy will start their program on Monday. Could you please ensure that you child has their swimming gear organised – swimming bag, bathers, towel, goggles (if desired) and thongs/sandals. All goggles need to be adjusted and fitting comfortably prior to coming to school. We also suggest that students bring an extra plastic bag to place their wet items in. Further information can be found on the Compass Parent Portal.

Junior School Athletics

The Junior Athletic Sports will be held on Monday the 16th of December, 9am at the Spring Gully Cricket Oval. This will provide each student within grades Prep, One and Two with an opportunity to participate in a range of athletic events. Students will be split into six groups and will compete in their grade level for the duration of the morning. Fun and participation are the themes of the day. Children will need to wear house colours, broad-brim hat, sun protection and suitable footwear for running. Children are asked to bring a water bottle, which can be refilled on the day. Spectators are welcome.

Further information, including consent to participate will be placed on Compass shortly.

Auslan News

Grade Preps have continued to practise the Auslan Fingerspelling Alphabet A-Z and are doing a wonderful job learning to Fingerspell their names! This week Grade Preps have begun learning how to sign the Auslan numbers 0-12. Some clever Preps immediately linked the numbers 5 & 6 to when we learned how to sign our age in Auslan! 😊 Grade Preps made an Auslan Numbers jigsaw puzzle to take home and sign with their families for practise.

Grade 1-2s have been revising the topic of Family Members with signs they learned last year. They are using these signs in simple sentences about family. Students have been signing-along to practise the family signs using members of the British Royal Family. Grade 1-2s have enjoyed playing some rounds of Family Members Celebrity Heads. They are currently working on their own mini books about My Family, including signs such as: mum, dad, me, brother, sister, baby, aunty, uncle, cousins, grandmother and grandfather.

Grade 3-4s have continued to practise their Auslan signs for occupations, including: teacher, doctor, nurse, firefighter, dentist, police officer, chef, hairdresser, astronaut, pilot, postman, vet, mechanic, soldier, artist, farmer, musician, photographer, singer, carpenter, scientist, worker, waiter, sailor, business person, sports person and builder. The Grade 3-4s presented their occupations PowerPoints to their peers this week, to practise the signs they chose to include in their presentations. The 3-4 students seemed to really enjoy presenting their PowerPoints and leading their peers in some signing practise. Many students were also eager to present their work to the class on the big TV!

Grade 5-6s have been recording themselves signing their short, personalised Scripts and the Auslan Fingerspelling Alphabet for their Learning Tasks. Students will be completing their mini research project on the History of Auslan this week, covering the origins of Auslan, the importance of handshapes, HOLM +NMF, and why Professor Trevor Johnson is such an important figure in the Deaf community.

Choir Update

A huge congratulations to the fabulous SGPS Choir on another successful year! We would like to advise that there will be no choir rehearsals for the last 5 weeks of Term 4, with Mrs Hamilton commencing her Maternity Leave at the end of this week. Thank you to all the wonderful choir students for their commitment and dedication to the many rehearsals and performances this year.
