Assistant Principal's Report

Cyber Topic of the Week: Good Habits Start Young

Parents and carers play an important role in helping children to develop digital intelligence — the social, emotional and practical skills needed to successfully navigate the digital world.

Even for preschool children, it is never too early to instill good habits, and as your child gets older it is useful to keep reminding them of these basic digital intelligence principles: respect, empathy, critical thinking, responsible behaviour and resilience. These are also principles you can emphasise with your child when things go wrong.

Interview Day 2025

Bookings for Interview Day on Wednesday 29th January 2025 will be available to make via Compass in mid-January. Our system ‘rolls-over’ from 2024 to 2025 during this time. A Compass alert will be sent to all families when this rollover is completed and will include instructions for how to book a conference with your child’s/children’s 2025 teacher/s.

For our new Preps, there will also be information about how to book the 1hr conference and assessment for your child. Please keep an eye-out for the Compass alert around 20th January.

Learning Tasks + Student Report =                           ‘The Semester 2 Reporting Package’

As mentioned in Francis' section, Semester 2 Reports are released via Compass on Thursday 19th December. Our 'formal reporting package' is based on a progressive reporting model a which includes the Semester Report and Learning Tasks. A traditional reporting model generally only includes the semester reports.

Learning Tasks capture learning at a particular point in time and the Semester Report provides a summary of learning progress over the whole semester. We hope you have found our formal reporting package valuable throughout the year.

Medicines and EpiPens

On the final day of Term 4, we request that parents collect any medicines, including asthma medications or EpiPens that are currently at school for your child/children. As mentioned in the newsletter last fortnight, Wendy will soon send home blank management plan templates for known students who suffer from asthma, allergies and/or anaphylaxis. We request that families have these plans completed and signed off by a doctor and returned at the start of the 2025 school year.

Netbooks - Grades 3 to 6

All netbooks in Grade 3-6 will be collected on Wednesday 18th December. Our netbook lease ends this year, so all devices will be returned to Melbourne. We have a new suite of netbooks on the way for 2025/26. Please note that lost or damaged netbooks will incur a charge to families, this includes lost chargers which cost $40 to replace.

Families of current Grade 2 students will soon recieve a letter about the netbook program for your child in 2025.
