Prep 2025 Transition – 2 down and 2 to go!
Our Prep 2025 transition program commenced last week. I’m really pleased that the children have enjoyed visiting our school, meeting their teachers, and getting familiar with our school. It was awesome to see how settled they have been during their sessions with Miss Dunn, Miss Mortlock and Miss Floyd. We have two more Prep transition sessions - Tuesday 3rd December and 10th December.
‘Step Up’ Day
On Tuesday 10th December our current Prep to Grade 5 children will be involved in a ‘Step Up’ transition activity. On this day the children will be ‘moving’ to their 2025 classroom with their 2025 classmates. All students will be spending time with their 2025 teacher. This is an important part of successfully preparing them for next year.
Year 6 Orientation Day
On Tuesday 10th December our Grade 6 children will be visiting their respective secondary colleges for the day, while our 2025 Preps will be visiting our school for their fourth and final transition session from 9.00am–11.30am.
Selecting Our Schools Captains for 2025
Shortly, we will begin the selection process to determine our School Captains for 2025. The whole process is a great experience for the students involved and we're always proud of how they handle themselves, as it can be very daunting to 'put yourself out there' for consideration. So how are these decisions made?
- All Grade 5 students are invited to write an application explaining why they ought to be considered for a School Captain position.
- Candidates are interviewed by Mr Parkes, the current School Captains, Pearl and Hadley, and myself.
- The Grade 5 teachers and Specialist teachers are asked for feedback on each of recommended candidates.
After considering all of the above, our new School Captains will be chosen and will be presented to the school community at our assembly on Friday, 13th December.
Thanks in advance to all of the students who will go through the process. We are very lucky to have so many awesome students, making the decision extremely difficult each year. For those children who miss out, I would encourage you to keep putting yourselves forward for any leadership opportunities that present in the future.
House Captains
Many students will present their speeches to their House next week, demonstrating their desire to be their leader in 2025. Thank in advance to all students for nominating for these important roles. As is the case for those children who miss out on School Captain roles, I would encourage these students to keep putting themselves forward for any opportunities that present in the future.
Grade 6 Graduation
Our Grade 6 Graduation will be held on Wednesday, 18th December from 7.30pm in The Hub. We would ask everyone to be seated by 7.20pm. This night celebrates the achievements of all of our Grade 6 students. Prior to the formal part of the evening commencing at 7.30pm, the children will have a dinner at school with their friends and teachers from 6.00pm - 7.00pm.
End of Year / Christmas Celebration
We will be holding a picnic gathering to celebrate the end of the year on Monday 16th December (5.00pm-7.00pm in the Hub...weather permitting). More details will follow soon, but please save the date. We appreciate this is a busy time for families, but it would be a wonderful opportunity to gather together, catch up with some old friends, and make some new ones. We are also hoping that Santa and Mrs Claus may be popping by, despite their busy schedule at this time of year!
Semester Two Student Reports
Reports will be released electronically via Compass on Thursday, 19th December. Please be mindful that many other schools are likely to be releasing their Semester Reports at a similar time and that download speeds may vary depending on the time of day you are attempting to download. Reports will only be printed upon request.
Final day of 2024 – early dismissal & final assembly
The final school day for SGPS students will be Friday 20th December. Parents should note the earlier finishing time of 1.15pm.
The final assembly for 2024 will commence at 1.00pm. Students will be dismissed from The Hub at 1.15pm. School bus travellers be picked up at approximately 1:45pm.
