Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

We are rocketing towards the end of 2024, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t valuable learning time remaining.  In order to have success in 2025 and beyond, it’s vital that students continue to attend until the end of the year.  Every day of school attendance counts.  If you would like to learn more about the importance of school attendance, there is a great resource available:

Blue Group

It’s hard to believe we are already well into Term 4. Once again Blue group have been fortunate to be involved with some fun outside activities in conjunction with Centre for Participation including art, basketball sessions and a favourite by many Tiny Goats coming up next Monday. In class we have had a focus on comprehension and used this particularly with Halloween. We also got into the spooky spirit carving some fruit and veg such as of course pumpkins, pineapple, apples and capsicum. Today like many we reflected on the fallen for Remembrance Day and students completed a Service Person Profile by investigating a soldier who fought during World War 1.

Senior Group 1

The term has been extremely busy already as we approach week 6.

With report writing underway we have seen some great outcomes for many of our senior students.

These include 17 completed units achieved, one complete VPC certificate, two completed VET automotive certificates and several students maintaining part time work.

Students were involved in RSA training and white card training.

It has been a productive term

McKenzie Creek

Camp, camp, camp!!

The Creekers have had a very exciting week, heading away to Port Fairy for two nights. During our class time recently students have been able to do some research to discover more about the historic ‘shipwreck’ coastline as well as being involved in planning activities and meals whilst we were away.

Day 1 - Horsham to Port Fairy

Once students arrived in Port Fairy after a 2 ½ hour drive, they settled into their cabins and familiarised themselves with the accommodation at Southcombe Lodge. Next, students enjoyed a picturesque cruise around the bay on the ‘Mulloka’.

Students strolled into town to enjoy a tasty treat at Rebecca’s Ice Creamery. On the menu was a BBQ with meat and vegetables (do you believe us when we say the students voted for this?) It was lights out early, as the students crashed out after a big day and with the prospect of a busy day planned for Tuesday.

Day 2 - Warrnambool: Flagstaff Hill & Mini-Golf

It was rise and shine and let’s get ready for an action-packed day! Students travelled to Warrnambool and detoured Tower Hill to see the historical volcanic crater. Once students finished completing some research and exploration around the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum, it was off to the Lake Pertobe Playground for a run around and delicious fish n’ chips (a must when you’re near the sea!)

Prior to leaving Warrnambool, students participated in a fun-game of Mini Golf with plenty of hole-in-ones (except for Ben!)

Before retiring for the evening a small group of students took the opportunity to do some rockpooling, Pascall was able to wind back the clock as she helped the students explore for small shells and starfish.

Day 3 - The trip back home!

It was a bittersweet morning as the realisation had kicked in that it was time to head home after a brilliant time away. Also, we were a little bit upset as the Port Fairy Confectionery Shop was shut!

Our tour guide, Ronnie led the group for a walk around one of the local Lighthouses at Griffith Island. What a way to finish an enjoyable trip!

Some student (and staff) highlights included

  • Julian - I liked cooking the BBQ with Ben on Monday night as well as the Boat Ride.
  • Chris - I was funny when I almost fell off the massive swing and playing on the flying fox at Lake Pertobe. Also I liked having Julian & Lincoln with me on camp and sharing a room.
  • Liam - Going on the cruise especially as Koby and I got to steer the boat and we saw a dolphin. I also liked playing cards with Koby & Pascall.
  • Pascall - I loved seeing staff and students intermingle with one another, especially on the mini golf course. Ronnie had blown me away with her competitiveness and mini-golfing talent. It was a lifelong memory seeing Ben climb up the ‘Slide of Death’ and hearing his vocal descend, only a few bumps and bruises were obtained.
